Prebriefing

Outline of what’s going to happen, who is going to read what in what order and noting some characteristics of ADF rituals.
One thing to note is that the purpose of the rite (to honour our deities at Midsummer) will be stated during the rite.
ADF rites are more focused on triadic honour, invitation of Ancestors, nature spirits and High Deities than a calling of four Quarters. The Wiccan casting of a circle to create sacred space apart from outside influences is done through an openness to the land around and a gift to those not connected to the ritual. Thus, pennies or raisins, for example, will be taken and cast away from the ritual with the appropriate words asking Outsiders to take their gift and go their way.

Procession-

Opportunity for chants such as “We are walking to the grove.”

Ringing of Bell 3 times

Purposeful Druid-
“We are here at Midsummer to honour our deities.”

Arboreal Grounding-
Tree visualization grounding led by Purposeful Druid.

Invitations

Opening Gates- “O Bee-leh, Forest Heart, Sacred Tree!
O Being reaching to mystery!
O Bridge, lift us along with Thee!”

Ancestral Invitation
We greet you, we follow along life’s road.
We greet you, who lived and lightened our load.
We greet you, we, now, the harvest you sowed.
(Offers apple juice or bread)

Nature Spirits Invitation
We greet you of water, of land near,
We greet you being around us here,
We greet you coming to bring us cheer.
(Offers peanuts)

We greet you Shining Ones in the sky,
We greet you Lofty Ones welcomed nigh.

Oghma’s Invitation
O Oghma, our too’a’ha
Presents these gifts; please receive
Here afar, near Ottawa
We recall, gather, believe.

Behold us here attending
To honour Thee as before,
Champion now defending
The ones who rise to restore.
(Offers sage)

Individual Offerings

Purposeful Druid: “Those among us wishing to extend individual offerings may do so now.”

Divination

Diviner- “We have addressed our deities, now it is our turn to listen to them.”
Diviner pulls three ogham pieces from bag, one after the other, stating their individual significance and meaning.
Diviner- “We have been addressed by our deities. Are we satisfied, or would we hear more?”
This question generally applies to a gloomy or rather unclear reading and is seeking either the usual response,
“Yes” or the unusual request to pull a fourth ogham few if the reading seems especially gloomy or unclear.

Convivial sharing of juice and/or bread

Then the spiritual and divine participants are thanked and bid adieu in reverse order of their invitation.

Ogham: O Oghma came you did shining high
O Oghma shared you did reasons why
O Ogham patron, champion nigh
Accept our gratitude and good bye.

Epona: Epona, came you did riding here.
Epona, sheltering us from fear

Accept our gratitude and good cheer.

High Ones: Fare you well, Ladies and Lords up high!
Fare you well Shining Ones in the sky.
Fare you will Lofty Ones welcomed nigh.
