Autumn Equinox, 2003

Preliminary observations: This grove has generally taken omen in the traditional sense, that is a reception of divine indications about the grove’s past, present and future.

The prepared text of the ritual named Puck, the ADF member who has produced the most outstanding study to date on the ogham, as our diviner for this ritual. As she was unable to attend, this second string diviner, had to stand in. As the aforementioned study clearly expresses the sentiment that reading from a prepared divination handbook is an inferior method to sharing what the deities are transmitting “live,” this stand in did not merely read from the best study available on the ogham.

It is my opinion that our deities are aware of which human is doing a divination, that the “random” selection of ogham fews, runes, or whatever is guided accordingly, and that the substitution of this diviner for the one listed, may well have altered what was drawn in the divination, in the sense of which ogham characters appeared, but not necessarily in the sense of what they wished to communicate.

Past: the aspect of our past being highlighted in this divination is Luis (Rowan) sight, vision, perception, discernment, observation.

Present: the aspect of our present situation being underlined most for our attention is Nin (Ash) Bridge, the bridge between the unconscious and the upper realms. At the ritual, some of the imagery that attends this few was mentioned: a ladder for ascent from below to above, a tree rising high, a key in various meanings of the word.

Future: the aspect of our future being most emphasized in this communication from our deities is shelter, huath (whitethorn). What came into my mind, as a visual image, when this turned up, was the grove coming together in a circle around the protecting camp fire. This fire is sheltering us from the darkness and the dangers outside. Now is our time to relax, recuperate and share community, following whatever exertions and threats lay immediately behind.

It was raised at the time of the ritual that another understanding of this few is stagnation. The reply was given that this diviner at this time was receiving the message of gathering around the camp fire, but, especially since the issue was raised during divination, of course, we ought to keep in mind that the immediate future seems to be that we are camping together, sheltered from the outside, and that we have not arrived at our destination, and will be continuing our journey.
